This 1988 Crown Wagon is equipped with the inline 6 cylinder supercharged 1G-GZE engine. For when you have one more place to go and you don’t want to waste any time. We bought it because we thought it was funny that someone chose this car to convert into a hearse.
It starts right up and runs great. The A/C blows cold and the “swing” feature on the center vents works properly. Equipped with the original 14″ wheels, we put new tires on as soon as we got it in. It rains A LOT in Kentucky, so we’ve been able to confirm that the sunroof does not leak and opens and closes properly. Power windows and locks all work, however the lock cylinder for the rear hatch floats around the hole a little. The rear windows are tinted and beginning to show some wrinkles.
The car was originally silver and has been repainted black. There are lots of minor scratches all over the car. Evidence of the repaint is most noticeable inside the rear hatch area near the hinges where some paint is peeling. All of the door jams were painted in the repaint.
While it has been converted to a hearse, the possibilities here are endless. The curtains inside the windows can be easily removed. The existing false floor is well built and can be repurposed. It would make a great VIP build with plenty of room to showcase an air-ride setup or stereo install. It would also make an excellent support vehicle for shows; chairs, coolers, pop-up tents – it will all fit. We think it would look great with a hardwood floor installed in the back.
